Did you see the coverage of the people left in New Orleans? Some had gold teeth in their mouths...........?

Many standing in the convention center orthe superdome had gold teeth in thier mouth, they had Jordan%26#039;s on their feet, thick gold chains around their necks and other expensive clothes.

Now there is nothing wrong with having fine things, but if they could afford all those items, why were they considered %26#039;poor%26#039; and %26#039;underprivileged%26#039;?

How could they afford all of that expensive stuff.

This is not a racist question. I just would like someone to explain to me how they could afford that stuff but were still considered %26#039;low income.%26#039;

Did you see the coverage of the people left in New Orleans? Some had gold teeth in their mouths...........?
Because you don%26#039;t report income from stealing or dealing drugs.

Reply:Thats why they are poor. buying materialistic crap.
Reply:They were living off of the Democrat%26#039;s (Socialist%26#039;s) dime. After all, why should they work when they can get money for free?
Reply:Afford, 99% of those folks were the criminal scum of NO, the city would have been better off the feds would have dropped a few bunker busters on them, instead they shipped most to Texas and now the Houston crime rates are sky high.
Reply:Welfare checks, selling ebt cards and working for cash only can buy you a lot of things.
Reply:Great question. The reported income is what classifies you in an income bracket. My guess is that the expensive items that you are questioning where not purchased with legally earned income, or they are fakes bought at flee markets and street side vendors.
Reply:If your teeth are gold or your necklace is, then that doesn%26#039;t mean you have income.

Low income has nothing to do with the flood or Katrina, but it may have something to do with the timeliness of the Federal Government%26#039;s response to the emergency
Reply:Did you expect Katrina to blow out their gold teeth? Or do you expect people who have gold teeth to pawn them after they lose their jobs?

Isn%26#039;t really enough gold in a gold tooth, to live on. Would you buy a gold tooth from a pawn shop? How much would you pay?
Reply:gifts perhaps... proper investment in teeth and use of money... may be some people consider gol fillings and teeth better--- why not save up for a rainy day with your teeth even if you have to.
Reply:A comprehensive state of emergency was declared on August 26, 2005 and the evacuation order was given on the same day. Katrina struck during the early morning hours of the 29th.

The evacuation was well done + highly successful and all of the highways leaving New Orleans were empty by 6:00pm on August 28th. More than 1, 350,000 people left, from a metro-area population of about 1,400,000. About half of the estimated 50,000 who remained in the City went to the Superdome.

The canal wall breach that flooded the Lower 9th Ward happened at about 7:30am on the 29th. It was very bad, but that breach did not cause flooding in the city-proper.

The canal wall breaches that flooded the city-proper happened at about 9:30am on the 29th. It was not instantly apparent - to anyone - the breaches would result in catastrophic flooding. However, the city center was flooding by 2:00pm on the 29th (less than 5 hours later and still during the daytime). The flooding was broadcast live on global tv by every network.

Most of the people who did not evacuate or go to the Superdome were forced out of their homes by the rising waters. Many made their way to the Convention Center because it was dry (not isolated by floodwaters like the Superdome). Not all of them were %26quot;low-income%26quot;.

Different people had different reasons for not evacuating. Some made what they thought was an informed decision based on previous hurricane threats. Others were indeed low-income and couldn%26#039;t afford to pay for hotels (at inflated rates) if they evacuated. A few were criminals who may have thought an evacuated city offered some interesting opportunities.

Responsibility for the failure to immediately respond to the emergency rests completely on the shoulders of the state%26#039;s governor - who is a Democrat. It should be noted that Governor Blanco refused a request from President Bush on August 30th to %26quot;federalize%26quot; the disaster response, which would have allowed the use of regular military units in addition to the LA national guard. Instead she sat on her hands and earned the nickname %26quot;Governor Blank Stare%26quot;.

The FIRST national guard convoy didn%26#039;t reach New Orleans until September 2nd.
Reply:Um, it is racist.
